Ciabatta

Perhaps I'll change my mind, but right now, the best thing about baking my own bread is ciabatta. Nothing beats it. Salty, oily, gorgeous crust. I just pulled some from the oven and I want to eat the whole thing right now.

One quick thing to inspire you in making ciabatta (in case you never have): it's extremely fun to do with one of your kids. I say one, and I mean it. The initial stage is so moist, it's great: sloppy, sticky, gross. It's the kind of cooking you want to share.

Ciabatta. Perhaps I'll change my mind. Perhaps.

  1. Nice - I've just begun a new sourdough starter in the hopes that this time it'll work. It worked well enough to fill the living room with sourdough aroma - but I think I killed it before it got into the bread :)

Good to have you back blogging...

  2. Thanks Stan!

Hmmm... sourdough. Yes. My sourdough journey has been a bumpy one of stop-start style :) One thing I would say: give the loaf heaps of time to rise (and make sure your dough isn't too moist). My starter needs quite a while to rise the loaf to a good size; but it does get there, eventually!

(I love my sourdough; but I love my ciabatta even more, for now!)
